If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your smile, porcelain veneers can transform your teeth by concealing cracks, chips, stains, and a variety of other cosmetic concerns. Crafted out of beautiful and strong dental ceramic, porcelain veneers are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth for dramatic results. At Greder Dental in Omaha, NE, we offer both traditional porcelain veneers and ultra-thin minimal prep options. Dr. Mack E. Greder and Dr. Jennifer Greder can design and place a stunning set of veneers to provide a natural-looking enhancement for your smile.
What Can Porcelain Veneers Do?
Veneers are thin shells of dental porcelain that can conceal a wide range of cosmetic flaws, including:
- Minor misalignment
- Stains and discoloration
When you choose porcelain veneers, you can address multiple cosmetic and structural issues at the same time. For many patients, veneers provide similar results to teeth whitening, orthodontics, and dental crowns in a single treatment.
Are Veneers Right for Me?
To qualify for porcelain veneers, you need to be free of gum disease and have good oral health. Dr. Greder will fully examine your teeth and gums before recommending veneers. If you have tooth decay, gum disease, or an infection, we can provide treatment to restore your candidacy for veneers.
Porcelain veneers are a fast and effective way to enhance the cosmetics of your smile.
Patients interested in traditional veneers must also have a sufficient amount of healthy enamel to support the ceramic shells. While we try to keep our alterations to your teeth as minimal as possible, Dr. Greder must remove a thin amount of enamel so the final result looks natural. If you do not have enough enamel, you may still qualify for one of our minimal-prep options, such as Lumineers® or DURAthin®.
Personalized Treatment Plans
When you come into our office for a cosmetic treatment, the first thing we will do is perform a comprehensive oral health exam. Then, we will take digital pictures of your smile. Using our advanced virtual smile design software, we can preview your changes and plan a personalized treatment to precisely fit your goals. During this initial consultation, Dr. Mack Greder or Dr. Jennifer Greder will also sit down with you to discuss all your treatment options so you can make an informed decision about porcelain veneers.
Traditional Porcelain Veneers
If you decide to proceed with traditional veneers, Dr. Greder will first prepare your teeth for placement. This process involves removing a thin layer of enamel from the front of the teeth to ensure your veneers fit properly. Once your teeth are ready, we will take digital impressions and send the information to our partner lab for fabrication. We may place temporary veneers over your teeth to protect them while you wait.
It typically takes a couple of weeks to craft custom veneers. When they are ready, you will return to our office so Dr. Greder can bond them to your teeth. At this point, we can make any final adjustments to ensure you are completely satisfied with the results.
Minimal Prep Veneers
If you choose Lumineers or DURAthin veneers, your teeth typically do not need preparation. Minimal prep veneers are ultrathin, so Dr. Greder can apply them directly to your smile without removing any enamel. However, since minimal prep veneers are thinner than their traditional counterparts, they do not provide as much coverage for severe discoloration.
