Invisalign® Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a teeth straightening treatment that uses clear aligner trays made from patented SmartTrack® material to discreetly improve your smile. The ultrathin, comfortable Invisalign aligners are custom made to fit your mouth. Invisalign can help with a number of different problems, including:

  • Crowded mouth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite

Invisalign corrects most mild-to-moderate misalignment. But if you've got severe misalignment, your Greder Dental dentist may recommend another kind of orthodontia.

What is the Invisalign planning process?

Your Greder Dental dentist starts by scanning your mouth with a state-of-the-art iTero® Element intraoral scanner, so there’s no messy impression process. The iTero Element generates a 3D map of your mouth and sends it directly to the patented ClinCheck® digital smile design software.

Then, your dentist uses the ClinCheck program to design a treatment program for your specific needs. You can also see a preview of your Invisalign results with this high-tech digital planning system.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign gradually shifts your teeth as you wear a series of aligners. You change aligners around every two weeks. For optimal straightening, wear your aligners 20-22 hours a day, and remove them only for meals and oral hygiene.

Every six weeks, you'll see your Greder Dental dentist to check your teeth straightening progress until you've completed treatment.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

It can be different for everyone, but treatment typically lasts 6-18 months.  Before you get started, your dentist gives you a treatment estimate, but it’s sometimes hard to predict exactly how long you’ll need to wear aligners since each patient is unique.

As long as you follow the treatment plan closely — making sure to wear the aligners for the recommended amount of time every day — you can expect great results.

How can I maintain my results after Invisalign?

You can prevent your newly straightened teeth from shifting by wearing a Vivera® retainer, a clear retainer specially designed to work with the Invisalign system. Alternatively, some patients wear their final set of aligners at night to help maintain teeth alignment after Invisalign treatment. Dr. Greder makes recommendations specific to you.
